HBO pro zvýšení pozornosti k uvedení čtvrté série svého seriálu se rozhodla zrealizovat mixtape s rapovými hvězdami jakými jsou například Wale, Common, Big Boi či Daddy Yankee.

Mixtape byl vypuštěn pro podporu již nadcházející čtvrté série seriálu, která je plánovaná na 6. duben, jak sama řekla i Lucinda Martinez, šéfka HBO pro kulturní marketing pro Billboard: "We wanted to drop it a month in advance because people tend to binge-watch, especially now that winter is here, and the idea of having a bunch of artists create songs in different styles with different interpretations of what Game of Thrones is to them as artists could be an interesting way to get people engaged to watch it."

Už v únoru Big Boi mluvil o zúčastnění se na tomto mixtapeu:

"I’m working on it right now, trying to get it ready for the end of the year. Definitely the mixtape is coming...We also got Common and Wale and more surprise artist on the mixtape...It’s a Game of Thrones mixtape. I’m just apart of it. It should be out in the next couple of weeks. Catch the Throne. That's where it's at."
